ABJVRATION
ABJVRATION
The Unquenchable Pyre
(Caligari Records)
26:40min

Something fuckin' heavy from Caligari again! This time, the gem digging tape label presents us a really new band from France. ABJVRATION started just a year ago, but the three band members are experienced in bands like FUNERALIUM or HKY. Those who know these bands might already assume that ABJVRATION are more on the Doom side of Metal. And, yes, they are! On their Facebook page, they call it “Krushing Metal ov Death”. Not a bad description at all, I'd say. Imagine an intense mix of the slow, grinding doom parts of early AUTOPSY plus some CELTIC FROST and the pioneering early 1990s Doom Death bands like DECOMPOSED and you have a more or less fitting idea of what to expect from ABJVRATION. For a first sign of life, “The Unquenchable Pyre” is pretty impressing. The intro, largely titled 'I Am The Torch-Bearer, I Set Them Ablaze At Dawn' already evokes an oppressive atmosphere, paving the way for the epic 'The Desiccated Womb'. Heaviness in the grip of WINTER, tuned down to the maximum, yet with a short furious outbreak at the end. 'The Famished Zealot' is equally heavy, yet spiced with doomy harmonies and a few more faster parts with an AUTOPSY feeling. Another tribute to the Californian grandmasters is opening half of 'The Clawed Redeemer', making it overall the fastest track ABJVRATION have to offer on this demo. Finally we have ' They Were Led Astray By Treacherous Visions Of Faith', a kind of instrumental outro, that massively plays with elements of neo Crust bands like FALL OF EFRAFA. Very impressing, like the whole demo is nothing less than a deep impact on the souls of the weak. This band is destined to make a dent onto the Doom scene, so be quick and get this limited tape, that is of course made with a passion, as we know it from Caligari. To find out more, visit the band at abjvration.bandcamp.com or www.facebook.com/abjvration. And for some more gems of the underground you're always right to visit: caligarirecords.bandcamp.com or www.caligarirecords.com.
