When I first saw the artwork Chris Reifert designed for this split CD, it immediately caught my attention: twisted stuff that it's almost alive. How did he come up with that? Great visuals for a start! Now onto the music. ABSCESS side is Punk oriented Death Metal. In my humble opinion, the band is a cross between old EXPLOITED and MANTAS. I know what you are thinking but I have no other words to describe it. Mr. Reifert has been dwelling into this style for some time now and it just gets better and better. These 4 songs are catchy and heavy and the raw production fits the band perfectly. Especially the vocal work; no grunts or growls but lots of shouting with some b-horror movie bits and pieces (no pun intended). Great! Now, BONESAW from England kinda follows this style but more on the early AUTOPSY side, including the doomish interludes, mid tempo songs and deep growls. 2 songs showcase that they are committed to their music and this band deserves attention. So, go ahead and get this split. It's well worth it and both bands are great examples of punkish yet blood soaked Death Metal!
