Act Of Impalement
(Caligari Records)

ACT OF IMPALEMENT is a pretty new trio from Nashville, Tennessee. Around since 2012 only, these guys have released four demos already in their short time of existence. It was Caligari Records' job to release the latest two of them, last year's “Hyperborean Altar” and the newest one entitled “Echoes Of War” on one tape. And there are two things you can be sure about releases from Caligari. The first is the extremely fine packaging of those limited tapes (only 100 made here), made with a lot of love for the tape as a sound carrier. The other one is the always exquisite taste of label boss Hansel. The stuff he releases is always interesting underground music with a special note. And ACT OF IMPALEMENT are a perfect example for that. They prove that you don't always need musical progress to create something unique. In the past, there have been a lot of Doom Death bands, lots of them good or even excellent. But ACT OF IMPALEMENT add their own special note to Doom and Death, since they've learned a few lessons in Sludge Hardcore and Drone as well. And these lessons find their expression in the music of the band. Especially the sadly only three songs from “Echoes Of War” are outstanding examples for it. The title track rages in a manner DYSTOPIA might be proud of and 'Heathens Omen' breathes fire and brimstone. In the doom hammer 'Atrocities & The Spiritual Rape', even giant traces of the mighty WINTER can be found. But the New York masters of frost and doom left their trace on “Hyperborean Altar” as well, and these footsteps aren't too big for ACT OF IMPALEMENT. But it's also some CELTIC FROST resp. HELLHAMMER and even those slower AUTOPSY tracks who left their mark, making ACT OF IMPALEMENT a great find for all underground Death / Doomsters, extreme brutality diggers and gem hunters.
