AGGRESSIVE MUTILATOR
AGGRESSIVE MUTILATOR
Crude Abomination
(Stygian Shadows Productions)
10:40min

Yeah, the Swedish Black Thrash yobs are back. AGGRESSIVE MUTILATOR, one of the trigger happy bands as far as releases are concerned, have something new up their sleeves. And something surprising all the way either. The last I heard of the guys was the demo “Långrocken” which they released last year already. That tape already surprised me with some influences from the NWOBHM era. Now their new output “Crude Abomination” even goes one or two steps further. The opening title track is pretty much in the old style of AGGRESSIVE MUTILATOR, a raw and rude Black Thrash attack, even though it already features melodic guitar leads that really make the song a very fine one. But after that, things become a little more odd, since the a little slower 'Extinction Forever' is spiced with strange harmonies in a punky, free styled way that opens a new dimension for the duo from Norrköping. And the break towards the end even has a distinct (not too old) VOIVOD feeling. But with 'Cyberspace Warrior', AGGRESSIVE MUTILATOR reinvented themselves. It's not just the pretty clear singing, it's the overall punky atmosphere of the song that made me think of the old US Punk / Hardcore legend CAPITOL PUNISHMENT. And 'Rape The Goat' is the darkest song of AGGRESSIVE MUTILATOR ever, it's even a little spooky in the chorus. So, “Crude Abomination” was a real surprise to me, and it's worth checking out, even though a little more thrust in the production might have benefited the songs.
