The Divinity Of Oceans
(Napalm Records)
67:36min

On his endless hunt for the white whale Captain AHAB is finally ready for his second voyage to the dark wilderness of the seas and after their very strong debut three years ago ("The Call Of The Wretched Sea") I was really looking forward to the new renaissance of German Doom Metal. But since weeks I'm trying to find the key to this release and even if I have to admit that the lyrical background of "The Divinity Of Oceans" is again a fascinating topic is the second release from the musical perspective a mere disappointment. During the last three years AHAB did not change course drastically - maybe the music has slightly developed into more shallow waters - but the very long compositions are very seldom in the position to capture the essential abyssal atmosphere. The album is offering 7 (very identical) songs and an hour playing time is basically value for money but I couldn't point out any song as a real highlight of this release. So general speaking "The Divinity Of Oceans" is maybe not a candidate for the worst album of the year but also not an album which can / will add anything to the overall history of Doom Metal. www.napalmrecords.com, www.ahab-doom.de
