Forbidden World
(High Roller Records)

ANTICHRIST is a Thrash Metal horde from Växjö in Sweden and already active since 2005. In 2011 already, German fine label High Roller Records saw their potential and released their first full-length “Forbidden World”. The band plays a very rough Thrash Metal version in the vein of the early 80s releases of SLAYER, DESTRUCTION or KREATOR with a slight Death / Black Metal edge here and there. Apart from the rough sound, the band has a very technical and sometimes even melodic approach and therefore the ten presented songs get varied here and there by melodic interludes. Even some classic Heavy Metal appears here and there and the good guitar work really makes this thrashy piece a very enjoyable journey. Songs like ‘Torment In Hell’, ‘Terror Dimension’ or my favorite track ‘Necropolis’ really show their potential and musical range and delivers the necessary variety to their sharp and precise riffing. The drum work is also very heavy and brutal and delivers a solid fundament for their heavy stuff. The genre typical screams fit perfect to their sound and even if the songs appear to be a bit chaotic here and there, the band manages to find the red line again and then convince with good melodies and special structures in their good songwriting. All in all a really good debut release and as this horde was unknown to me before, I will also check their upcoming second release “Sinful Birth” soon as well.
