APOPHIS
I Am Your Blindness
(Supreme Chaos Records)
31:49min

Finally, some new material from German Death heads APOPHIS. A bit short, but in contrast to other bands, APOPHIS insist on selling "I Am Your Blindness" for a special price. I saw these guys live at the Protzen Open Air a couple of years ago (review still online under "Specials") and was quite impressed. Brutal stuff with a melodic touch to it. Really old school. After severe line-up problems the band didn't give up and this CD is the result. The new singer rocks - at least on CD. Heavy, professional, deep. For my taste it lacks some aggression, especially whenever the keyboards starts sticking. Fortunately, this doesn't happen too often. To cut a long story short: this is solid Death Metal and the band even manages to sound recognisable - they've been around for quite some time, you know. But somehow I don't get too excited about this release right now. But their attitude deserves to be praised. Be sure to check 'em out live in case they happen to come to town! www.apophis-music.de.
