CANCEROUS WOMB
CANCEROUS WOMB
Born Of A Cancerous Womb

OK, here's a little quiz for you - with songtitles like 'V.I.Paedophile', 'Up To My Uts In Guts', 'Grind, Tear And Slice', 'Torn From Cunt To Cunt', 'Menstrual Fryup' (that's a tasty one!) and suchlike, what sort of style these Scottish fuckers chose to build those words around? Yep, it ain't fuckin' Pagan Metal or Glam, this is just pure, relentless, intense brutal Death Metal through and through with a deadly dose of Grind and some impressive catchy technical bits just in the right places. Now this doesn't sound very original and it isn't, but that's not the point here. After the first spin I wasn't very impressed and put them among dozens of new bands emulating the American style of brutal Death Metal, in this case mostly DEICIDE and CANNIBAL CORPSE. But a couple more sessions brought out some impressive groove and playing skills that went over my head at first time. I checked them out more thoroughly and it turns out these poets of gore have been traveling the live circuit extensively, so they're tight as fuck, viciously mashing up your brains and pulling out unexpected tricks to drill the deadly message deep enough. Lo and behold, I'm fuckin' jamming this album every day and headbanging my head like crazy, ready to proclaim it as one of the best that came out in January 2014! The sound is truly intense and heavy - the bass is damn prominent here, rumbling your guts, pummeling them into the ground along the solid drum work, while catchy riffs will slice yourself to pieces and vocalist Chris Lewis does his best alterating between lowest gurgles and screeching screams, never missing a beat. Tempo varies between fast, faster and very fast, but they manage to keep locked in the whole time, the groove element never gets lost and it's probably the main element which appeals to me, they pull you in and never let our of this controlled maelstrom. And what else do you need from your no frills, brutal Death Metal? This is as good as it gets, so check them out and give a shout next time you see them smashing stages near you! www.cancerouswomb.com, www.grindscene.co.uk
