To Serve Man
(Metal Blade Records)

The ultra brutal Death Metal is on its way up (again), no doubts about that - probably gaining a lot more interest nowadays than ever before! And the fact that an established company such as Metal Blade has signed a band like CATTLE DECAPITATION should be prove enough. The artwork of the band's third full length "To Serve Man" (courtesy of Wes Benscoter) is without a question destined to cause some discussions among the masters of moral once more as it kinda looks like a combination of early CARCASS meets CANNIBAL CORPSE sleeves. And the band itself...?! Well, musically their stuff is kinda hard to pinpoint - the core of the material is obviously rooted in skilled and intense old Thrash Metal as the riffing is mostly in that vein, while the vocal delivery is more of the brutal and gory type. I suppose that somehow they must be influenced by old Grindcore as well. But unlike many other acts of this genre, CATTLE DECAPITATION seem to use their visual / lyrical presentation for a more serious manner because all of the guys are heavily supporting animal rights organizations - which gives their bandname and some of the lyrics a completely new meaning (check out their website for further info). Pretty similar to old CARCASS who used to mix up pictures of car crash victims with those of raw meat, that we all get to see on a daily base in supermarket ads. CATTLE DECAPITATION is a very matured sounding four piece, that certainly won't re-define brutal music, but they're still interesting enough to gain some interest within the boundaries of Death, Grind and Thrash Metal as this album delivers quality in every aspect.
