CENOTAPH
CENOTAPH
Perverse Dehumanized Dysfunctions
(Hammer Müzik)
30:51min

It's the sixth time I am listening to this record now and I am seriously torn between honest respect and marveling amusement. As disturbed as I am on one point as much I am fascinated. What a twisted record. But first the facts. CENOTAPH is a Turkish Death Metal gang which was founded in 1994 by the very talented Batu Çetin. More or less a Death, Grind, brutal Death, brutal Grind Death anti-everything musician with a bag full of solo projects. For example DRAIN OF IMPURITY or PHOSGENDÖD. Everything, as you may guess, very brutal stuff. Nothing to chill at a lake or cruise around the country side. That’s proven by me. But if you have a crossed eighth note tattooed to your body, you will be more then contented. On this record he is assisted by other great (anti) musicians from projects like BURIAL INVOCATION or IN REVEL OF SEDUCE. Very nice projects too. “Perverse Dehumanized Dysfunctions” is their 6th album and I think experienced Metalheads can figure by the albums name what’s waiting for them. And that’s what disturbs and amuses me at the same time. It feels basically like it's half an hour the same riff with a squealing tone every fourth bar. And if you skip through their discography you will soon figure out that this recipe is a very trusted one over the last albums. What began with “Voluptuously Minced“1996 in a clear Death Metal garb turned with “Reincarnation In Gorextasy“ into a straight Goregrind. And now it appears again in a slight Death Metal uniform and a style which sounds kind of influenced by their geographical neighbors from Greece. But still the Grind, or Gore or whatever you want to call it, roots are pretty striking. Playing that music now for over two decades you can imagine that the technical side of this project is undoubtedly highly stable. But since I never got into that life of raping corpses, eating rotten flesh sex parties and watching faces of death, I can’t precisely tell what would be the right characteristics for a decent Death/Gore, technical Death, Grind album. But: it’s fast! It has no nice harmony! It doesn’t groove! Enjoy! www.facebook.com/cenotaphtur, www.hammermuzik.com
