CROMB
Promo 2004
(self-financed)
19:16min

There's no sense in beating around the bush concerning CROMB's first promo. Although members of the well-known Swedish brutal Death Metal act INSISION are active in this band the twisted, progressive Death Metal featuring Hammond Organ, a drum computer and heavy riffing at the same time is pointless and might appeal to people seriously into doing drugs. Production wise everything's alright on the four songs presented here, two of which are instrumentals, one even has to admit the excellent programming of the drum PC, but something simply is missing on this CD. It can not be the musical performance of the people involved in CROMB, but where bands like PANTHYMONIUM go completely crazy, break boundaries and create unbelievable, freaky soundscapes or PESTILENCE on "Spheres" who were REALLY hypnotic (something CROMB also try to achieve) CROMB fade into boredom and grow more and more uninteresting. I seriously recommend checking their MP3s to get an impression of the Swedish band yourself, but I think the three-piece should either smoke more weed or take some time to work out a more convincing concept, better songs with more inspiration, more ideas and more atmosphere. Using a Hammond Organ in a Death Metal band is great and imagining something like THE DOORS of Death Metal might be fascinating but CROMB are not mellow enough yet... www.cromb.net
