DEAD
DEAD
Hardnaked... But Dead!
(F.D.A. Records)

The inventors of porno Grind (and later on purveyors of sleazy Grind'n'Roll) DEAD return to the stage with a new album "Hardnaked... But Dead". Confusing title? Wait till you hear the music! My biggest issue with DEAD is this: I like their concept of having filthy pornographic humour as the lyrical content more than I like the actual music. To put it simply, they were great mixing straight forward Grind and Gore back in the 90s, but their latest outputs seem to veer away from that formula and add lots of slower, mid-paced, should I say - rocking - grooves. While that might look good on paper (or on screen in this case), in reality it blows. To put it simply, the new DEAD album sounds like a bunch of leftover songs from PUNGENT STENCH sessions with bits of BLOOD DUSTER and XYSMA sprinkled over it. The playing is very loose, the songs don't have any interesting hooks and out of 10 I could only distinguish 3 that managed to grab and hold my attention for some time - 'Liquor Store Goddess' (pure PUNGENT STENCH throwback), 'Short But Slim' and 'Perfumes Of Doom'. Overall, it seems that DEAD wasn't very much inspired making this album as it sounds lazy and without any fuckin' balls. It looks like they're just going through the motions most of the time and calling your tracks 'Tits' or 'A Beer' clearly shows that they were as bored working on them as I was bored to listen to them. Their previous album "In The Bondage Of Vice" was a way better rounded up and powerful release, so if you miss some sleaziness in your Grind, some rocking vibes, then check that one out or go and dig up latest BLOOD DUSTER "Lyden Na" triple CD, but DEAD just doesn't do it for me this time. www.dead-slaves.com, www.fda-records.com
