DENIAL FIEND
Horror Holocaust
(Ibex Moon Records)
29:46min

DENIAL FIEND's debut album "They Rise" was an excellent slab of pure Death Metal. Now, after 4 years and a slight line-up change, the guys are back for more. Besides new drummer Rob Rampy (of D.R.I. fame), their second album, "Horror Holocaust" features Blaine "Fart" Cook on vocals. And here is where the line is drawn! Fans of Kam Lee's vocal attack on their debut album may be in for a surprise. Cook's vocals blend in perfectly since now the band is mixing a lot of catchy Thrash Metal riffs along their super dense Death Metal roots. There is a lot of Punk influence here too, not only in the vocal attack, which even has a Gore-ish texture, but the music as well. It almost feels like this album should've been the heavier continuation of THE ACCÜSED. The production is amazing, as the album sounds organic and almost "alive", with a great thick guitar tone, audible heavy bass and pounding drums! The mix has Cook's vocals in the back, making them even scarier and evil, working great along the sonic assault right in your face. Guitarist Sam Williams outdid himself this time. "Horror Holocaust" has some of the catchiest Death / Thrash Metal riffs I've heard in some time; and like zombies, they are everywhere. Every song has different character and atmosphere even though most of them dwell in a mid-paced side of Death Metal. There are also some Stoner / Sludge moments here and there that sound really refreshing. And if you read all this and still didn't get it, imagine a cross between (early) OBITUARY's music, CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER's vocals and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the movie. So? What are you waiting for? Go get this album NOW! This one has "Instant Classic" written all over it! Info: www.myspace.com/denialfiendband, www.ibexmoonrecords.com
