DEUS INVERSUS
DEUS INVERSUS
Mastery Over The World
(Nihilistic Empire)

Hell yeah! In my humble opinion this is one of the best Death Metal releases in 2010 and one of the best Death Metal albums out of Germany ever!!! When I listened to the band's first release the MCD "The Downfall" in 2004 and witnessed one of their impressive live performances I was convinced that this band would release some real killer stuff in the future. But when their debut full-length "Legion Is Our Name" came out four years later I was rather disappointed. No, it wasn't a bad album. It was actually a good release but I expected much more. DEUS INVERSUS is an occult or if you want a satanic band and "Legion Is Our Name" does not have the proper atmosphere. It sounds way too sterile, too technical and clinical. But "Mastery Over The World" has exactly that atmosphere I missed back then. And that totally blows me away. The sound is killer. The production is so fucking massive and you can clearly listen to all instruments. Though you can hear through every single note that the musicians are really skilled I would not say that this is a technical or progressive album. They are focused on the song and not on showing the technical skill of the musicians. Songs such as 'Beast In Sight' and 'Down The Acheron' or the title track or any other song on this album are brutal masterpieces of sophisticated Death Metal art. The compositions are varied and wide-ranging on one hand and have a vicious neck breaking attitude on the other hand. The guitar leads are beautiful and blasphemous at the same moment. The short instrumental song 'Goatpriest' is a fine example for that; it is an acoustic guitar interlude with a dark, obscure and vicious atmosphere. I won't compare them to any other band that wouldn't be fair but I have to name IMMOLATION because DEUS INVERSUS creates a similar gloomy and malicious atmosphere. I'm sure every IMMOLATION fan would love "Mastery Over The World". Vocalist Dimitri reminds me know and then on Ross Dolan and that catapults him to the top level of Death Metal voices. His voice is so powerful, so dark and so blasphemous. I bet, the leader of hell himself would not sound that evil, believe me. The more I listen to "Mastery Over The World" the more I love it. This is brutal unhallowed and infamous Death Metal performed on a very high level. Don't miss it!!! A Must have!!! All hails to DEUS INVERSUS and Nihilistic Empire for releasing such an apocalyptical masterpiece!!! More info at www.deusinversus.de, www.myspace.com/deus-inversus
