DISCERN
DISCERN
To Praise With Persecution
(self-financed)
36:41min

Move over MORTIFICATION. There's another sword and shield with a cross on it that wants your title! If you, any of you, are unaware of the Australian Death mongers MORTIFICATION let me say that even though I am not into overtly faith based Metal, time and again there are those followers of Christ that indeed step it up and deliver a hammerblow to their secular contemporaries, like MORTIFICATION have in the past, and as is the case today from the Richardson, Texas solo outfit DISCERN. Led by the one man Metal machine Bill Fraser; who handles all the rhythm guitars, drums, vocals, bass, songwriting and execution of all non-believers on this record! All kidding aside, the immense quality of material on this CD album is something to be heard to honestly appreciate. The skill level alone that it takes to deliver such proficient and at times taxing riffs with the precision here that is delivered song after song is nothing short of amazing. At this time, I will say the Blues riffs in track 3 'Second Death Honesty' did throw me for a second (as did the closer for track 8 'Change For The Worse') and I mean I read about the Blues inspiration within DISCERN's bio, however even though I read that, I was wholly unprepared to have that blast from my speakers. That said I can't but help recall when NUCLEAR ASSAULT dropped some Blues riffs in the middle of 'Butt Fuck (You Figure It Out!)' and it fit! Just like the Blues and subsequent jam section that follows in this particular song 'Second Death Honesty'. I seem to also remember the words from John Connelly in that song going on about "... and anyone who gives us a hard time about putting a Blues part on a Thrash album can go fuck off!" The same standard applies here folks. Uncompromising and brutal, DISCERN is obviously a force to be recognized if not revered. No pun intended. All lead work on this CD is performed by ex-SOLDIER guitarist Rick Hunter-Martinez and actually for me his solos are another focal point of praise within this album. Exceptional leads. Truly exceptional lead-play. Contact: discern777@verizon.net or www.discerndeathmetal.com
