DISCREATION
The Silence Of The Gods
(Remission Records)
41:32min

German Death Metal outfit DISCREATION were founded shortly after the millennium and now deliver their third album via new label home Remission Records. Topped off with an absolutely fantastic Castellano cover that would feel perfect on an IMMOLATION album, musically DISCREATION take a different left hand path despite some Thrash-laden sections that would not be out of place on mid 90s US Death Metal records. Also, the vigorous, throaty yet deep growls set a very pleasant brutal touch - only irritated by some screamed backings (please get rid of that!), I want growls and nothing else - whereas melody, catchy song structures and classic Metal-inspired riffing rule the game. Blasted passages add another spoonful of diversity and eradicate any hints at softness, so if you like a genre tag: I'd label it melodic Death Metal with dark growls. The transparent, wide and meaty production by Jörg Uken deserves a big fat thumbs up as does the consistently passionate performance and competent very accessible songwriting. While I am not too fond of the banal mid-tempo number 'Wartribe' or equally simple 'I Reign Supreme', it's my personal view on Death Metal that gets in the way here now as I'm damn sure a more open-minded, "mainstream" - and I mean that in a positive sense - Death Metal maniac will actually have a great time with DISCREATION. "The Silence Of The Gods" is powerful and entertaining fodder for friends of non-nerdy Death Metal who consider ANTEDILUVIAN or PORTAL a pile of garbage and can bang their heads along to such diverse acts as BOLT THROWER, EDGE OF SANITY, CANNIBAL CORPSE, FRAGMENTS OF UNBECOMING or BLOODBATH equally enthusiastically. Here's some links for you, make sure you check the "Plague And Fire" EP which is available for free at their bandcamp. Well done lads! www.facebook.com/discreation, http://discreation.bandcamp.com, www.remissionrecords.de
