DO SKONU
Womb Of Primeval Darkness
(Forever Plagued Records)
35:22min

Any time a new record comes out on the Forever Plagued roster, it attracts my attention. After all, this is the label that gave us the excellent material from INCURSUS and the new, completely desecrating album from DEMONCY. “Womb Of Primeval Darkness”, from the two-piece Ukrainian DO SKONU, was initially released on Omega Productions with Cyrillic titles. This Forever Plagued re-issue features the band monicker and tracklist in the English translation. DO SKONU is prime “Transilvanian Hunger” worship; but played through an Eastern European filter. If you’ve heard OLD WAINDS, you’re pretty close to DO SKONU. “Womb Of Primeval Darkness” boasts a pounding, natural production and atypical vocals for this style of Black Metal. Singer Varagian bellows like a hungover Slav, giving the tracks a far more manly and aggressive sound than your typical DARKTHRONE rasp. If you long for the days before Fenris was a party-rocker, or can’t wait for the next OLD WAINDS, “Womb Of Primeval Darkness” will certainly hit the spot. www.foreverplaguedrecords.com
