DOWN AMONG THE DEAD MEN
DOWN AMONG THE DEAD MEN
Exterminate! Annihilate! Destroy!
(Cyclone Empire Records)
38:21min

DOWN AMONG THE DEAD MEN seem to have turned into a serious band and they release their second album now again via Cyclone Empire. The band still consists of Dave Ingram, Rogga Johansson and Dennis Blomberg, who is also active in PAGANIZER or RIBSPREADER with Rogga, so the involved guys are no newcomers and have a serious background in the scene. The twelve songs plus two cover tunes come to a running time of thirty-eight minutes, so it is clear that the band does not waste time and comes straight to the point. The second album “Exterminate! Annihilate! Destroy!” in total is a step forward and sounds a bit more solid as their debut and more like a real band now instead of a side project. Their tunes offer a mixture of old school Death Metal combined with some elements of Crust / Punk and some Hardcore tunes. This mixture makes the output more varying and gives the songs a bit more power. Anyway I still think that the involved musicians could do it better as I expected some more from this output and compared now to ECHELON, that output was better, even though the production was horrible. But the quality of the material is swaying. Tracks like ‘Warriors Of The Deep’ or ‘The Oncoming Storm’ sound a bit too harmless and calculated while ‘Death Seed’ and ‘War Machines’ are a bit stronger. The cover tunes ‘Forged In Fire’ (ANVIL, feat. Kam Lee) and Protest And Survive (DISCHARGE) are well done and close to the originals. Even though I still love Dave's vocals and have respect for Rogga's efforts, all in all "Exterminate! Annihilate! Destroy!" sounds if it had been put together too quickly and with not enough attention. As already mentioned in my ECHOLON review, the guys should have chosen the best tracks out of both albums and released those under the moniker DOWN AMONG THE DEAD MEN. Of course you get solid material from those guys as they cannot release anything totally bad, but I expected some more.
