Thy Children
(Goressimo Records)

DOWNWIND from Kiev in the Ukraine are already active in the underground since 2008 and have released four singles and finally this EP back in 2013 independently. This material gets now re-relased by the small Polish label Goressimo Records and this is not a bad idea, as the material is quite fine. The band plays melodic Death / Thrash Metal in vein of bands like DIMENSION ZERO, THE HAUNTED or THE DUSKFALL. Surely again this is not a style lacking of talented bands but I am always happy to hear new bands with proper songwriting playing this style. The opening track 'The Anchorite' is an uptempo Death / Thrash song, with fast Thrash Metal guitars and fast drumming, before in the middle section groove takes over and shows, that these guys have a good feeling, how to make enjoyable and catchy Metal. The vocals are the typical Death / Thrash mixture of screams and grunts and fit perfect to the music. The second track 'Beyond The Gate' sounds a bit more Death Metal with a touch of 90s Gothic / Death Metal, as the lead melody is a bit melancholic. Very good track and once again, it shows that the band has a lot of potential. The third track 'Agni' is a classic Death / Thrash Metal song with mighty SLAYER in its blood. A very aggressive and fast song with a very catchy lead melody in the middle and for me the best track on this small EP. 'The Land Of Thousand Towers Pt. 1 and 2' and 'Witches' also offer very fine played Death / Thrash and show, that there is no filler on this EP, as all tracks are really groovy and varying. The production is very clear and powerful and sounds very professional and fits perfect to the material. Fans of this style and above mentioned bands, should really not hesitate and check this band out via:,
