EREBUS ENTHRONED
EREBUS ENTHRONED
Night's Black Angel
(Séance Records)
39:40min

Australia is home to many great bands such as DESTROYER 666, BESTIAL WARLUST, NAXUL, and HOBB'S ANGEL OF DEATH. This is my first time being introduced to the Black Metal act EREBUS ENTHRONTED via their "Night's Black Angel" album. The first thing that is noticed is the hint of late 90s era / early 2000 era MARDUK / DARK FUNERAL so I knew this review would be a fun one. Right off the bat the band caught my attention with the first track 'Enthroning The Harbinger Of Death'. Mid-paced and full of catching guitar riffs, the vocals fit perfectly with the band's sound. Think "Blackwinged" - era MARDUK (is it coincidence that one of the songs on this album is titled 'Blackwinged'?) mixed with 2 cups of DARK FUNERAL's "Vobiscum Satanas". The next tracks 'Pillar Of Fallen Flesh' and 'Nil (Solve Non Coagula)' start off with ripping speed and then continue with a mixture of mid paced tempo, but allows for the listener to absorb the music. 'Virus' is another headbanging jam that alters between blasts, a slow tempo, and back to a mid-pace. Actually, I found myself hitting replay on this song several times. Great guitar solo towards the end of the song. 'Temple of Dispersion' is the atmospheric-instrumental piece that to me would fit better as an outro rather than within the rotation. Eerie, dark, and interesting are the best ways to describe this track. I think it would be perfect for a serial killer movie as the score for the moment in the movie where the audience sees how the serial killer slowly tortures his / her victims. Good track overall. 'Night's Black Angel' the title track of the album is the show stopper of this album. Great guitar solo / hooks, fits the song and the realms to where it wants the listener to go. Just when you think the song is going to mellow out... BAM... the tempo speeds up and transcends the listener to the abyss that is EREBUS ENTHRONED. Overall I have to say that if your thirst of music leans towards MARDUK / DARK FUNERAL (as mine does) then you have to give these guys a try. The instruments / vocals gel well and I can expect some great work from these guys in the future. Don't expect 10000 bpm songs throughout the album as this is not the case. But it is worth a listen and have a few cold beers while you are at it. For more info: www.erebusenthroned.com, www.seancerecords.com
