Unchained From The Crypt

EURYNOMOS' "Unchained From The Crypt" marks the return of Okkulto, former vocalist for the German band DESASTER, after 13 years of silence. Aethon (axe), Nimetör (drums) and Magma (bass) complete the outfit. These guys stand for raw, no holds barred dark Heavy Metal, as they classify themselves. And I think the tag fits their music perfectly. There are traces of EXCITER, RAVEN, MERCYFUL FATE, BULLDOZER, BATHORY, HELLHAMMER, MOTÖRHEAD and the likes all over these 3 songs. There is nothing complex about their style. It's all about the attitude and the conviction behind their music. The songs are based on basic riffs, raw vocals and mid-paced drum beats. Execution wise, everything falls into place including the a well done early 80s production. Even with the dirty atmosphere, the mix is clear and punchy. I got stuck in the first generation (and maybe a bit of the second) wave of Black Metal. Shame on me, I've never heard DESASTER and / or Okkulto's vocals before. But his performance with EURYNOMOS is excellent. His approach is totally different, but it reminded me of Attila Csihar at times. I am looking forward to more material from these guys. These 3 songs brought back a lot of memories from the golden era of Heavy Metal. It shows that those 13 years were worth the wait. Contact the band here: www.eurynomos.com.
