FUOCO FATUO
FUOCO FATUO
The Viper Slithers In The Ashes Of What Remains
(Caligari Records / Iron Tyrant Records)
52:23min

After two EPs (recently re-released on tape by Caligari Records), the Italian Doom Death trio FUOCO FATUO now finally has their first full length offering ready. While their fellow countrymen from Iron Tyrant are responsible for the CD, Caligari are again in charge for a limited edition of 150 high quality tapes, done with lots of love. In comparison to their pretty variable and sometimes a little odd EPs, the three-piece from Varese put the stress on “The Viper Slithers In The Ashes Of What Remains” on Death Doom to the utmost. Thus they created a pitch black piece of pure heaviness, darker than black. The five long songs, three of them passing the mark of ten minutes, with only few changes in speed create an atmosphere that is close to those bands that are labeled Funeral Doom, like AHAB especially. The fragmentary melodies and dense thickness of the songs underline the affinity to Funeral Doom as well. I'm not the one to create new genres in Metal, but in this case I'd like to call FUOCO FATUO the originators of Funeral Death. There's hardly another way to really describe the music on “The Viper Slithers In The Ashes Of What Remains”. And the song titles also describe what this album is all about. 'Anxiety', 'Black', 'Isolation', 'Nothingness' and 'Requiem' - songs with names like these have to sound like they sound here. FUOCO FATUO are really hard stuff, but if you're into the real heavy shit, into the blackest of Doom, you're welcome to check them out at fuocofatuo.bandcamp.com or www.facebook.com/pages/fuocu-fatuo/117222268381764. Or visit the labels at irontyrant.wordpress.com or www.caligarirecords.com
