GOSPEL OF THE HORNS
GOSPEL OF THE HORNS
A Call To Arms
(Invictus Productions)
32:56min

Since "Eve Of The Conqueror", GOSPEL OF THE HORNS' second MCD after "The Satanist Dream", the Australian Black / Thrash Warriors seem to be a very promising act to me. Although they are musically close to older DESTRÖYER 666 they are not just a cheap copy, but capable of creating convincing and original material, that lives off its raw feeling, primitive Riffing and a sound that is less polished than DESTRÖYER 666's latest album "Cold Steel For An Iron Age". In addition to that a song like the hymn 'Slaves' proves that GOSPEL OF THE HORNS are much closer to Black Metal and traditional Heavy Metal than DESTRÖYER 666, who are in my opinion mainly influenced by old Death / Thrash. Anyway, check out the middle-part of the song and decide for yourself, it reminds me even a bit of the Swedish band BEWITCHED. The fantastic 'Vengeance Is Mine', 'Power Of Darkness' or the epic 'The Trial Of Mankind' are simply entertaining, thrashing Black Metal songs that should satisfy anyone who was disappointed by the latest DESTRÖYER 666, as well as anyone who likes it raw and to the fucking point!!! The only thing I would criticise on "A Call To Arms" is the titletrack, which is an approximately 5 minutes long instrumental, which is not bad, but not very creative as well, I would have prefered a real song instead. But that is really all, that disturbs me about this release, because there is no other weak song on it, the stuff never gets boring and somehow I don't even get the feeling that the 33 minutes are too short, they absolutely suffice and are worth the money - yeah, I actually bought this CD. Well, if you are into killer Black / Thrash get this CD and I'm sure you won't be dissatisfied by it. Great, talented band!!! Contact address: GOSPEL OF THE HORNS, No.141, 500 Centre Rd, Bentleigh, Victoria, Australia 3204, they also have a cool website: www.gospelofthehorns.cjb.net and the following Email address: gospelofthehorns@hotmail.com
