Rotten Kill
(Raw Skull Recordz)

GRAVESTONE is a new project from Sweden including members of the bands ENTRAILS and SAGA INCENDIA. They unleash their first beast in form of "Rotten Kill" via Raw Skull Recordz now and I must admit that these three tracks are the best old school Death Metal tracks I have heard for a while. The opener 'Fucking Your Corpse In Hell' is a really groovy monster and brings back good memories of mighty DISMEMBER by honoring their legacy without sound like a bare copy. Everything fits here. Good songwriting and a fine taste for melodies, HM2-styled guitars with groovy guitar lines, deep grunts but well-fitting and really good drumming. Especially the lyrics made me smile sometimes so a really good track that a bunch of better known bands surely would have liked to include on their albums. The second track 'Rotten Kill' for me is the highlight of this fine EP. The songwriting is brilliant, best to describe as a track, DESULTORY could have written for "Bitterness". Warm melodies, crossing the borders of Doom and Gothic Death known in the mid 90s with a pinch of old school Swedish Death Metal. Perfect songwriting with brilliant melodies and again good instrumentation. The third and last track 'By The Knife' is GRAVESTONE's bow to mighty ENTOMBED. Sound, songwriting and also the grunts sound very much influenced by the first three releases of the Swedish gods. Rounded off by a cool cover artwork and a perfect production, this EP is a good taster for their in the summer upcoming full-length album and recommended for all fans of the mentioned bands.
