HOMO IRATUS
HOMO IRATUS
Knowledge... Their Enemy
(Arctic Music Group Group)
11:49min

Well, Phil Fasciana (MALEVOLENT CREATION) seems to have not enough work with his band, because he is the A&R and vice-president of Arctic Music as well and has signed the Greek Death Core act HOMO IRATUS. Now their first release for Arctic (the second, Stefan - see above - Frank), the MCD "Knowledge... Their Enemy" is out and the four songs plus two video clips give a good impression of the musical spectrum and socio-critical message HOMO IRATUS represent. 'Protection Through Surveillance' and the cover of SEPULTURA's 'Roots Bloody Roots' are executed in some kind of brutal Death / Grind / Groovecore style and their own song has a modern, groovy feeling with a driving, "in your face" punch and tempo. The cover song is more heavy than the original, but despite that I can't help about still hating this fucking song, please cover one off "Beneath The Remains" or "Arise" the next time!!! The two other songs and the videos have been taken from HOMO IRATUS' debut CD "Human Consumes Human" and are quite brutal Death / Grind, which unfortunately is not very interesting or innovative, only 'Project New World' is a cool powerful song, but there are hundreds of bands around that play this kind of stuff much better and especially the vocal performance is relatively weak in my eyes. The video of 'Project New World' is done very professional and entertains perfectly!!! One gets a good impression of what HOMO IRATUS 'Live' means: Hardcore style jumping, a bit sicko atmosphere like SLIPKNOT (a guy with a gas-mask playing percussion or hacking wood(?) or a wooden cross on stage, very funny!!!) and brutal Death / Grind with groovy elements. The second clip is quite awful and I will only waste writing space, if I tell you anything more about it. To sum it up, I personally don't like this band and this MCD as well, HOMO IRATUS seem to waver between Death / Grind and Groove Core, but can not decide for either one of those directions. The sicko-image is totally stupid and has been well-served by all those Nu Metal acts like SLIPKNOT, COAL CHAMBER, whatever. Maybe people who like this kind of "socio-sicko" image and have a fable for groovy Death / Grind should give HOMO IRATUS a chance, I choose to dump it and suggest that Phil Fasciana tries to sign more bands like the great Black Metal guys from KULT OF AZAZEL, which are on Arctic as well.
