THE HERETIC
THE HERETIC
Gospel Songs In E Minor
(Xtreem Music)
44:53min

THE HERETIC from Spain are active since 1998 and "Gospel Songs In E Minor" is already their third full-length album. The music travels over a wide range of influences, from symphonic and melodic parts, a huge quantity of keyboards to Thrash Metal riffing. The song-structure is fairly progressive, reminding me of the latest ENSLAVED releases. The vocals also cover an extensive spectrum, clear to growling and back again. On the song 'Monster', after starting with an acoustic guitar intro, even choral singing appears. Of course the music is based on what is described as "Metal", namely guitars, bass and drums, but due to the progressive songwriting this area is occasionally left behind. Especially the keyboards sometimes are completely far beyond what can be heard by other Metal-bands using keyboards. It is really difficult to explain. The only band I know are the above mentioned ENSLAVED (on their three latest albums). Some symphonic parts are influenced by EMPEROR and some people might think of COVENANT, but THE HERETIC are definitely playing a unique form of music. If you call yourself open-minded then you should take a listen. But beware, like wrote above, the genre "Metal" is from time to time completely left behind. www.thehereticband.com, www.xtreemmusic.com
