Pro Patria Finlandia
(Osmose Productions)

I am not the expert when it comes to IMPALED NAZARENE, but the way I see their case, it seems they follow the same path than BATHORY, DESTRUCTION, KREATOR and SODOM did before them, beginning with crude, disjointed and tongue-in-cheek songs about Satan and goats to finally come up with classic formatted Thrash. Along the years the IMPALED dudes injected some Heavy Metal overtones into their demented Thrash, and it is even more obvious on this record. That way the music sounds extremely interesting and fresh even if IMPALED NAZARENE can't be seen as groundbreaking artists, only honest and passionate warriors, and this is a lot already! "Pro Patria Finlandia" offers 14 tracks of Heavy / Thrash interlaced with blast beats. The Metal culture of these guys is plainly evident on more than one occasion (like on 'One Dead Nation Under Dead God' with its sort of MAIDEN break). The production is top notch; the sound is clear and not overworked nor compressed. Mika's voice is once again the main attraction of the album, the guy actually thinks about what he sings, that making the difference with other vocalists in the end, because it adds a lot of conviction and rage to the music. I would lie saying "Pro Patria Finlandia" is a revolutionary album, it is not; but I see IMPALED NAZARENE as consistent as a band like MOTÖRHEAD for example, delivering exactly what theirs fans wait from them, years after years, concerts after concerts, albums after albums. They are in the end a reassuring presence, proving that dedication, passion, tenacity and honesty have a say in a scene too often dominated by the flavour of the day. If you are in for a serious headbanging session, go and buy this album without delay. Pure molten Metal indeed!
