Eternal Funeral Trance
(Forever Plagued Records)
45:37min

Sprawling and debauched epic Black Metal from the U.S. with undulating wave-like riffs and relentless hell blasting, Ugh! This is satisfying right out of the gate, I must admit. If not original sounding in any way, it is finely realized. The production is ideal. The mid-range bark of the snare and the crisp and present cymbals drive onward through mid-tempo ambience and whirlwind speed. The raspy, hissing vocals shriek high and dry above the expansive guitar chord layering. Black Metal for me can be hit or miss based on the details. Since I despise the fuzzy shit guitar sound of all “bedroom Black Metal” style bands, this kind of quality record (nope, don’t think overly produced or digital) fits the bill approvingly. It reminds me at times of old SATYRICON with touches of DARK FUNERAL and probably tons of other underground groups with odd European names. It’s good! www.foreverplaguedrecords.com
