MAINPOINT
MAINPOINT
Heaven / Earth
(Morbid Records)
50:58min

What is brutal about Gothic Rock? Well, I received a promotional copy from the record company and maybe some of you like this genre, so what the heck! MAINPOINT are from Rostok, Germany and "Heaven / Earth" is their debut album. I can't see the parallels to TYPE O NEGATIVE the info sheet mentions, but there certainly is some SISTERS OF MERCY in here. A lot of MOONSPELL ("Irreligious"), PARADISE LOST (singer) and a hint of LAKE OF TEARS every now and then. But MAINPOINT are no copycats, especially the female keyboard player adds some interesting ideas. The guitar sounds moer like Rock than Metal and the riffs of the first 2 songs are a bit too monotonous for my taste (some might call this catchy) and although "Heaven / Earth" is definitely Gothic, its got energy! So apart from the fact that I personally wouldn't buy this record (not really my favourite genre), I might like to see them live. Good band and now that the German CREMATORY are going to split (finally!), there might be some space for a better band at the top...
