NEGATIVE VORTEX
NEGATIVE VORTEX
Tomb Absolute
(Caligari Records)
24:48min

The tomb of Caligari Records unleashes another gem of brutality upon us. Those who know the quality of the music this label has put out yet can be sure that this one fits in the line of those excellent releases. With NEGATIVE VORTEX we have a brand new four piece from Oakland, CA in the US of A, consisting of former members of, among others, THE ENDOPARASITES, BURIED AT BIRTH, NIHLOTEP and BÄDR VOGU, to name just those who did an album. These four guys joined forces to take us on a trip backwards, through the realms of brutal Death Metal with no frills. So, Caligari is the chosen label to spread the word of their first demo recordings. “Tomb Absolute” is the name of this bloodstained tape. And what a killer of a first sign of rotten life this one is! Brutal Death, yes, that stereotype might fit roughly for NEGATIVE VORTEX. But these guys are more than just a mere brutal Death Metal band. They got a very distinguished vibe of Crust in general and a profound understanding of the special atmosphere bands like COFFINS, HELLHAMMER or the mighty WINTER create or have created. The title track already convinces with a brutal opening part that rips the flesh from the bone, before this one ends up in a very doomy way, reminding me of HELLHAMMER. Next up is 'Chant For The Undertaker', a ripping tune with a very brutal and slow grinding old school feeling, mixed up with some Black Metal melodies. Especially 'Cucuta' has that aforementioned Crust vibe, reminding me of the great deeds of WINTER in the ending part. The last of the four long tracks, 'The Burning Orb', is both the essence of this demo and the brutal highlight. Gee, NEGATIVE VORTEX really have found the special ingredients to create unique and fantastic Death Metal: a passion for brutality and the own special note. Since this tape is limited to only 200 copies and, as we know it from Caligari Records, made up great and professional, hurry up to save your copy of “Tom Absloute”.
