NETER
NETER
Nec Spe Nec Metu
(Grotesque Productions)
40:55min

Be not deceived. This album is not the prog affair it appears to me. In fact, the NETER album is quite the reverse, being an agile and young hybrid of ATHEIST and DEATH. As such, listeners should expect a roller coaster of standard Death Metal drumming and guitar riffs that zig zag up, down, and all around. Naturally, those of us who weren't keen on the Jazz direction ATHEIST took may not appreciate the intricacies of the album, but no one can deny this band isn't skilled, nor can anyone reasonably say that there isn't something in here for every Death Metal fan. This band would have fit right in with CYNIC, ATHEIST and later day PESTILENCE in the early 90s, when the aforementioned bands began experimenting. Naturally, those same aforesaid are better than NETER, but NETER is young, and may yet craft a true classic of the fusion genre. www.myspace.com/neterband, www.grotesquemusic.com
