The latest record by Canadian Techno-Deathers NEURAXIS arrived here together with the WATCHMAKER promo. While the sound of the latter embraces primeval chaos and destruction, NEURAXIS seek to express exactly the contrary with their music. "Trilateral Progression" hails the limitless possibilities of the human mind and the constructive powers of intellect, wisdom and belief. This reflects in their complex and technical approach to what some might call "Math-Metal". Although unlike many of the acts that nowadays get labelled with this ugly term, NEURAXIS don't get lost in constant rhythm changes and mind-numbing instrumental wizardry. The production is remarkably clean, almost clinical and even in the fastest passages the music is fully controlled and precise. The mixture of complex and melodic material is sometimes reminiscent of earlier ANATA but this only goes to show in which league NEURAXIS are playing. So, is human existence but an endless struggle in a relentless slaughterhouse or a platform for spiritual enlightenment through the achievements of a conscious mind?
