RISING MOON
RISING MOON
For The Remained Time
(Metal Fortress Entertainment)
55:05min

The fact that no one from the entire VOICES staff wanted to review the third album by Italy's RISING MOON should already be a good reflection of how bored everyone here already is by so-called "melodic Death Metal"! And I personally wasn't too excited to listen to it either as I gave up on that style a long time ago already and never really cared again... So, yeah - sometimes it really is a dirty job, but (as we all know) someone's gotta do it...;-) Anyway, for those of you who disagree with our narrowminded, fucked-up opinion, let me give you a little bit of background info on this Italian duo here. They were founded in 1997 as BODY GRINDER and a demo release quickly secured them a deal with Italy's Elegy Records, who released the band's debut album "Hate From Heaven" about a year later (already under the new moniker, RISING MOON). In 2000 disc numero duo saw the light of day (a concept album about aliens, entitled "Area 51") and in January 2001 Sweden's Metal Fortress Entertainment finally picked them up to release a mini CD ("European Aliens"). And now there's this new full length... "For The Remained Time" (shouldn't it be "For The Remaining Time"?) features 12 tracks, among them the title track off the band's debut album (don't know why it was included on here again). The overall sound is a little strange for a band of this kind as the guitars seem to be a little more downtuned than on other records of this genre. But the material really benefits from this, as well as from the mostly rawer-than-usual vocal delivery and additionally used clean vocal parts (to be found in '... For The Remained Time' for instance)... All this adds a little more uniqueness to their creations. I'm not sure though if the kinda weird (abrupt) endings of the already mentioned title track as well as 'Something Is About To Happen' were really supposed to be like that... This way it sounds more like a listening sample or technical damage rather than the ending of a real song... Apart from that, an album full of skillfully performed tunes, definitely of interest for melodic Death Metal lunatics that simply can't get enough of this style.
