SLAIN
SLAIN
Before The Inferno
(The End Of Time Records)
32:42min

Totally not what one would expect from Poland - SLAIN are neither VADER acolytes nor orthodox Black Metal lunacy. Throughout the 8 tracks on this album, the guitar players scarcely ever refrain from the palm-mute, and much chunky-chunkage abounds. This takes me back to the stable of primitive Death Metal bands on JL America, then to INTERNAL BLEEDING, and finally to the neanderthal bludgeoning of JUNGLE ROT. Fans of the mega-trendy Slam Death style might even find SLAIN to their liking. Personally, they are not my cup of tea, being a speed freak. I found track 8, 'Omen', pretty catchy, calling to mind the DEICDE part in the song 'When Satan Rules His World' (you know, the riff with the lyrics, 'open the door, jehovah you whore').
