SOUL DEMISE
SOUL DEMISE
Acts Of Hate
(Remission Records)
42:45min

Speaking critically on a purely instrumental register, SOUL DEMISE are alright; they know their AT THE GATES, their IN FLAMES, their SOILWORK. All well and good if you like your Death Metal with a nice pink bow. One could tolerate a listen or two if the album were only instrumental all the way through. Sadly, the vocals make their histrionic appearance all too early. Obviously if the world at large wasn't head-over-heels-in-love with this style, I wouldn't be bitching about it; but bitching I am. First, the whine-scream starts off sharply punctuated, as usual, with milisecond pauses to let it coast along with the melody of the guitars. Then, the backup voice chimes in, promoting the song to a diaper duo. Melodic Death Metal has its good points; in fact, it can be excellent. However, when pushed into absurdity as this band has done, the Death Metal is subtracted from the equation altogether, and we are left with a yelling mass of melody; poorly arranged at that. Buy it if you like it, though. www.myspace.com/souldemise, www.souldemise.de, www.remissionrecords.de
