SPEEDTRAP / DEATH WITH A DAGGER
SPEEDTRAP / DEATH WITH A DAGGER
Split LP
(High Roller Records)
23:07min

A split LP with side "Death" & side "Trap" offer this deathtrap to us. Side "Death" is obviously DEATH WITH A DAGGER's turn. 'Night Of The Dagger' is the opener and surprises with some kind of "Metalpunk" in the MOTÖRHEAD-vein. Like little brothers (or sons) of Mr. Kilmister and his team. Fast and furious. 'White Lady' is a little too cheesy for its own good with its melody and the ever repeating "White Lady"-chorus-line. The end of the "Death"-side makes 'Burning Core', a slower Metalrocker which convinces a lot more than the aforementioned song. A certain MOTÖRHEAD influence isn't possible to hide, and probably makes this my favorite on this side as it offers a fairly well-thought structure in the song. Well, Metalpunk, Metalrock, call it whatever you want. This side was good, but not essential. More songs with the quality and hook lines of 'Burning Core' and DEATH WITH A DAGGER could kill. The "Trap"-side is SPEEDTRAP's side and it's getting even more old school here. It's NWOBHM-time now and feels like back in the mid-80s, as already mentioned in my review of their MLP "Raw Deal" and they continue this way and matured their sound a lot. 4 songs offered here with great and outstanding vocal-performance done by Jori and a tight team around him. It's about time to impress me. With their first effort on High-Roller-Records they opened the doors and their part of this split LP should help them even more to manifest their name in the scene. The opener 'Out For Good' is a fast crusher with a straight Punkish atmosphere, kicks fuckin' ass and makes fun to listen. Next is 'Get It On Or Get Away' with a comparable style though a little more straight Rock'N'Roll attitude in it. The long 'Midnight Rough Ride)' killz - nothing more to add to this song. Actually all songs here convince and SPEEDTRAP follow the rule "no fillers, just killers" and show this during the whole 12 minutes of their side. Winner are SPEEDTRAP though DEATH WITH A DAGGER surely have potential. Again limited to 500 pieces and available through www.high-roller-records.de.
