STHENO
STHENO
Damnation Is Forever
(Chaos and Hell Productions)
09:33min

Crust / Grindcore! The Greek band STHENO, formed in 2013, delivered their first achievement in the form of this 5 track EP that hardly fills ten minutes. Much info about the band I can’t give, apart that some members play in BEDLAM and UNFIT EARTH. "Damnation Is Forever” is released on Chaos And Hell Productions which you might know from the NOCTURNAL VOMIT / ABYSSUS split "No Life In The Coffin” and ABYSSUS "Summon The Dead”. The bandname refers to a mythological monster, whose name is derived from the word sthenos which stands for major spiritual strength, courage, resistance and determination. Partly this goes for the music on this EP. The production is rather crusty with guitars that create a wall of sound. Most tracks are in a fast midtempo with an occasional blastbeat ('Wrong Direction’ and 'Carnage’). The fourth track 'Unaware’ sounds different and especially the opening riff is more Black Metal. The band plays tight and fast but the impression this EP leaves is probably as short as the running time of some tracks. Probably because the riffs from 'Ignorance’ and 'Religion Fails’ are very typical within this style. 'Unaware’ probably was an interesting switch and maybe tells something about the direction on future releases. Fans of NASUM, EXTREME NOISE TERROR, BRUTAL TRUTH, DRILLER KILLER, DISCHARGE and even old MAYHEM could check this out. But listen first at www.facebook.com/sthenoband, http://stheno.bandcamp.com
