Species Of One
(Schattenkult Produktionen)
29:50min

The album opens with a song called 'Alcoholocaustic Carcinogenocide', two newly coined words reminding me of booze ridden Black Thrash Metal. But do not be fooled, old-established VRAG from Australia have more to offer on their second full-length. For me the most fitting description is ravishing grimness. Of course that is also the name of a DARKTHRONE album released 1999 (the founding year of VARG) and "Ravishing Grimness" may indeed serve as blueprint for "Species Of One". A mixture of early / mid '80s Black Metal and Death Metal riffs, hate puking vocals and the slower parts and breaks are just a little pause until the wrecking ball reigns again. Just listen to the song 'Ashaver', that opening riff is most excellent and if it does not persuade you then nothing will. VRAG are always in attack mode, the track 'Interlude' is just, of course, a interlude. "Species Of One" was conjured for Black Metal fans who are not afraid of Death Metal riffs and for all those who know that Black Metal was not invented in Norway during the early '90s. www.facebook.com/vrag.moj, https://vrag.bandcamp.com, www.facebook.com/pages/schattenkult-produktionen/695399133905557
