Poland's Hellthrasher Productions has been putting out some sick records as of late; in particular I was stoked with old school killers from ESCARNIUM and RESURGENCY. As a matter of fact, VOICES readers can generally be confident that releases from this label will be to their taste and of greater-than-average quality. With the bellicose name WAR POSSESSION (made up of members of the Greek bands EMBRACE OF THORNS, MERCILESS CRUCIFIXION, etc), I was hoping for something with endless blastbeats - something along the lines of ancient KRISIUN. Instead, we get a chugging and semi-technical old school Death Metal sound. Not a bad production (a bit thin), not bad musicianship, and not very interesting songs make up this 4 song EP (the fifth track consisting only of 'scary' noises). Most of the EP is decent, but the track 'World War Domination' has some painful (as in awkward) drum-guitar accompaniment. As a point of reference, this may remind you of the mid-paced parts of EMBRACE OF THORNS, and there's a whiff of ARCHGOAT as well. Although far from bad, hopefully WAR POSSESSION will make something more 'possessing' next time.
