WITHIN Y
WITHIN Y
Extended Mental Dimensions
(Karmageddon Media)
44:19min

After only listening to this album for a few seconds, I could already guess that Within Y were a Swedish band because "Extended Mental Dimensions" really looks (artwork by Niklas Sundin) and sounds totally like a Swedish product. You can easily hear influences from bands like DARK TRANQUILLITY, old IN FLAMES and especially AT THE GATES - the so-called Gothenburg Death Metal so to speak. On the other hand it's also positive to remark that this band doesn't simply copy their 'idols' blind but also managed to incorporate quite some modern Thrash influences. The production of this album (recorded at the Meta 4 studio in Gothenburg) is ok but could be a lot better (especially the drums sound a bit 'muddy'). Considering the fact that "Extended Mental Dimensions" is a debut, you really can't call this a bad album, but on the other hand it also doesn't make me really enthusiastic as you heard everything already before and especially way better. Nevertheless all those who have a weak spot for bands like CARNAL FORGE, DARKANE or SOILWORK will probably like Within Y as well.
