Face Your Underground Vol.2
(Megalomanious Records)
75:35min

Faster than expected the guys from DeathMetal.be return with the second edition of their very cool "Face Your Underground" compilation. Remember what I wrote in the review for Vol.1? "Never knew that they had so many cool, internationally still unnoticed bands overthere..." Well, it was obviously only the tip of the iceberg, cause here's another 16 really promising bands from Belgium, and for some strange reason once again mostly internationally pretty unknown yet. Quality wise Vol.2 turned out even stronger than part 1 as there's no real weak band on here at all this time. My personal faves on "Face Your Underground Vol.2" are: the compilation's opening act SUHRIM (brutal crushing Death Metal), ORB OF TORTURE (whose over 7 minutes long contribution 'Frozen Hell Design' impresses with extreme brutality mixed with complex musicianship, especially in the second half of the song!), HEADMEAT (very skilled, brutal MORBID ANGEL style) and AXAMENTA, whom we already know from "Face Your Underground" Vol.1, with a very symphonic, almost DIMMU BORGIR-ish style. EMETH, WELKIN, SKULL COLLECTOR, LEPTOTRICHIA and BATTALION are also all quite brutal Death Metal acts, INSANITY REIGNS SURPREME deliver atmospheric doomy Death Metal, while FLESHMOULD, SACRAMENTAL AWAKENED, HERFST and GRINNING GHOUL are basically rooted in the Death / Thrash vein with more or less melodic guitarwork. MANIC MOVEMENT is probably the most melodic act on here and the disc's closer, THE QUIESCENT, partly kinda weird sounding. So, all in all this definitely became another highly recommended overview about Belgium's very strong brutal underground! Serious label's should really keep an eye on all the talent overthere!
