Some bands shouldn't be covered at all and KING DIAMOND is certainly one of them! There's just too many aspects that made this band so special and that you simply can't recapture. Of course the main problem while trying to cover a KING DIAMOND song is the unique and unmistakable vocal delivery that no one else seems to be able to copy in a proper way (vocalists are either lacking in the possibility to hit the incredible high notes or they deliver it without the necessary feeling). The technical brilliance of the KING DIAMOND musicians is another factor and of course the overall atmosphere of each album, that you simply can't reproduce at all! So it shouldn't be a big surprise that none of the participating bands on this tribute release come any close to the original versions. It actually all sounds pretty pathetic to me. The cover art is very cool though and the list of bands probably more impressive than the actual results (DARK FUNERAL, DAMNATION, IN AETERNUM, EXHUMED, USURPER, DESTINY'S END, ANCIENT, AGGRESSOR - just to name the best known here). So, in case you either like KING DIAMOND or any of those bands - go for their original releases instead of wasting money on something like this here.
