Revolution Calling!
(Listenable Records)
72:52min

This combined CD / DVD compilation features 18 audio and 13 video tracks by exclusively French bands from the extreme Metal sector. Half of the the audio and most of the video tracks are previously unreleased. Featured audio tracks are by: HACRIDE, G.T.I., KEVORKIA, AENIMA, SUPERSTATIC REVOLUTION, ZUBROWSKA, GOJIRA, KLONE, NERV, AS WE BLEED, EYELESS, COMITY, HELLMOTEL, PITBULL IN THE NURSERY, SCARVE, "????" [sic!] (this is actually a bandname, but I really wonder how it is pronounced!), MORGUE and INHATRED. Musically, you are offered a wide variety from the current French Metal underground, ranging from modern Death / Thrash Metal to Metalcore and everything in between. All bands are definitely keen to perform fresh and innovative music, which makes up a lot of the modern approach of this whole compilation. The combination of overall aggression, modern "noise" and even a few mellow parts in some songs creates a colourful picture. As almost goes without saying, the production of all the songs is excellently heavy. As for the video tracks, the featured bands are: KEVORKIA, SCARVE, MORGUE, INHATRED, GOJIRA, NERV, AENIMA, THE ARRS, EYELESS, G.T.I., COMITY, "????" (is it pronounced "FOUR QUESTION MARKS IN INVERTED COMMAS" possibly?) and KLONE (total playing time approx. 59min). The only band who is not featured with an audio track is THE ARRS. Fortunately, audio and video tracks by the remaining bands differ (except for the tracks by MORGUE, where the video corresponds to the audio track), so you get offered more tracks. Visually, the styles of the videos vary from hectic rehearsal room scenes to small stories and live performances with some wild crowd action. The quality of the footage is more than acceptable, but, except for the simple menu which leads directly to the videos, any further options or bonus material are missing. To put it in a nutshell, this compilation is not at all interesting for old school maniacs, but surely an aural and visual delight for open-minded fans of more modern sounds, especially those who are interested in what's going on in the French Metal scene nowadays.
