Spikefarm Sampler
(Spikefarm Records)
75:21min

I always wonder who is doing the packaging of those label-compilations. If I only had a look on the cover I would have never ever bought that CD when I saw it in a shop. And I also would declare it rather clever not to mention the last songs on the compilation on the backcover of this CD. But some things are obviuosly a matter of taste. This label-compilation features a song of most of the latest releases that were done on Spinefarm's more extreme sublabel Spikefarm Records. And like every compilation there are songs that one considers more positive and more negative. On the pro-side we have on this compilation the songs done by MOONSORROW, AJATTARA, THYRANE and especially the masters of Doom (one of my faves from 2001) SHAPE OF DESPAIR. On the con-side we have to mention THE SCARR, SHADOW and ENTWINE. To make the list complete, the other bands featured here are SILENTUM, FINNTROLL, KALMAH, RAM-ZET, THE DEAD BEGINNERS (ex-AUTUMN VERSES) and the not mentioned RAPTURE. Although I am not a friend of compilations, I must admit that the choice of the songs is quite representative - at least if I compare it to the albums that I owe myself. For people interested in one or the other of the Spikefarm-bands this might be a worthwhile investment as I doubt that this compilation will be that expensive.
