ENDZEIT
Issue # 5
(66 pages, A4, printed, in German)

Like its previous four issues German ENDZEIT fanzine is a guarantee for a highly entertaining writing style and interesting interviews featuring bands from the fields of Death, Black, Thrash Metal, Grindcore and with HEAVEN SHALL BURN even an excursion into the Metalcore genre. The other bands featured in this issue are SUFFERAGE, ANAEL, DEPREDATION, DESPONDENCY, HORNED GOD, IMMERSED IN BLOOD, HOUR OF PENANCE (aka "Aua, mein Penis"), KADAVERFICKER, NIHIL NOCTURNE, WORLD DOWNFALL, NORDAFROST and 9TH PLAGUE. In addition to that there is a VITAL REMAINS live feature and a good load of CD, demo and zine reviews. The printing quality is excellent and the layout - despite the fact that it is quite sparse - is effective, diversified and well structured. In contrast to many other zines from Germany (e.g. NECROMANIAC, CARNAGE, UNHOLY TERROR, LEPROZINE and my own "second home", ANCIENT SPIRIT TERROR) ENDZEIT has its main focus on the local highlights in the underground scene and not Sweden, the States or other foreign countries. Thus, I think this zine is a great opportunity to inform yourself about the national underground and learn about worthy bands just around your corner. The only thing I would criticise is Thorin's tendency to overdo two topics and almost compulsively forcing them in most interviews: a) Nazis in Metal b) narrow-minded Black Metal people. In my opinion he applies the same black / white scheme these two groups might represent. Nothing against vehemently fighting against brown scum in the Metal scene, but regarding group b) I think he should take it a bit easier since after all it's just a matter of musical taste. Overall, a great zine done by guys who know their shit and present their knowledge with spirit and dedication. Must-have for any open-minded, narrow-minded, mindless Metalhead out there who is capable of reading German! Contact: Jens Thorin Arlt, Arndstraße 39, 58097 Hagen, Germany.
