Another BESTIAL DEFORM re-release, and this time it’s their 1996 album that was previously available only on tape. I like this a lot more than their debut, but that doesn’t say a lot. I hear hints of MORBID ANGEL here and there (it was the year after "Domination“ was released), but I’ll stick to the classics. Thank you very much. BESTIAL DEFORM from St. Petersburg, Russia, are one of the longest serving Death Metal bands from the former Soviet Union, the history of the band goes back to 1990. This is a re-release, originally "Bellum Contra Omnes" was published in 1996 on tape, limited to 500 items. The album is remastered, but still the eight songs (plus intro) do sound very underground and old school. No digital overkill, seems like the band (or the person who did the remastering) managed to improve the sound without loosing the atmosphere. Besides the historical aspect and making the album for follower of the band available again, the material still has its charm, even in 2016. A mixture of Death Metal with Thrash Metal influences and fine guitar work with reminiscences of MORBID ANGEL ("Abominations Of Desolation"). Another big influence appears to be IMMOLATION, not only the vocalist is grunting like Ross Dolan, more than once the song structures reminded me of New York’s finest Death Metal band. The only exception in the up-tempo played tracks is ‘I Am Evil, I Am Death’, the song is completely devoted to ‘God Of Emptiness’ by MORBID ANGEL. For me the weak points are the instrumental or acoustic interlude during ‘My War’ and the spoken word with child’s chorus on ‘From Hell’. Whatever the idea was, it just sounds odd. But those two aspects do not affect the entire impression of a well-crafted and highly enjoyable Death Metal album. www.facebook.com/bestialdeform, www.morehate.com
