CORPUS CHRISTII
Tormented Belief

Seven melancholic yet very aggressive and grim sounding Black Metal hymns offer CORPUS CHRISTII from Portugal on their newest full-length. I’m not all too familiar with their previous releases, but if I remember correctly they used a drumming machine back then, which fortunately got replaced by a human soul namely Necromorbus, who also produced the album and might be known for his work with WATAIN, FUNERAL MIST and ARMAGEDDA. Musically CORPUS CHRISTII create quite individual soundscapes consisting of extremely raw riffing, morbid and minimalistic keyboards and the intense vocals of Nocturnus Horrendus, which manage to deliver the sinister emotions CORPUS CHRISTII’s music contains in a very authentic and capturing way. There are slower, epic parts like in the closing track ‘Constant Suffering’ or just driving speed like in ‘Melancholy Beginning’ or ‘Devouring Your Essence’. The lyrics are mainly very personal, desperate and hateful stuff capable of setting themselves positively apart from the ordinary “Hail Satan”-type of texts and due to the tormented screams of Noctu sound almost frighteningly honest. To sum it up, “Tormented Belief” is an intriguing, rousing dark Black Metal album, which musically does not explore new territory, but convinces with its unadulterated, cold atmosphere. So whoever enjoys uncompromising Black Metal should give CORPUS CHRISTII a chance, I bet you won’t be disappointed.
