CANNIBE
Beast From Zhytomyr

Anatolij Onoprijenko, born in Zhytomyr, Ukraine, was arrested in 1996 after he slaughtered 52 people within a period of seven years. This rate made him, besides one of the worst mass murderer in modern history, the perfect subject for a Goregrind band like CANNIBE. Never noticed this outfit from Italy, although they have a discography counting the huge amount of 38 releases since their founding in 2004. Of course mostly split releases, in my eyes the perfect form for this kind of ultra primitive Grindcore. Because listening to split a 7" grants you some kind of variety, since every band has some kind of special trademarks. In the case of CANNIBE it is the vocals, which are distorted to the maximum, at some time I was not quite sure if this noise came from a human throat. Using reverse delayed pitch shifter in this most extreme way makes me think of inventing some kind of vocal machine. If we have drum computers, then why not vocal computers when the voice is completely stripped of any human elements? But back to CANNIBE and their third full-length album. Even though the running time is rather short, the duo does not have enough stamina for that time. Too much senseless breaks and boring riffs, sometimes "Beast From Zhytomyr" is boring as hell. Obviously the band tried some songwriting instead of sticking to what they do best – grind as hell. There are some good tunes here and there and enough material for a split release or single, but not for a complete album. A cobbler should stick to his last, so to say. www.facebook.com/cannibe, http://goressimorecords.wix.com/gore1
