ARCHAIC THORN
Hydra Throats
(self-financed)
23:25min

The gongs and guitar rags in the intro herald ‘Epitomized Evil’ are quite promising. This track starts off easy but imminent until the tempo is pushed up. The atmosphere is ok with a bit disorderly and woolly production. The sound reminded of a Dutch demo from the 90s. The control of instruments is ok with wrought up drumming. It sounded a bit like a blasting ASPHYX. Sounds very interesting, but unfortunately there are some remarks. The riffing is moderate and not particularly original, catchy or intense. Also the songwriting is far from original. Not too much of a problem when everything is right where it should be to keep the adrenaline running, but in tracks like ‘Reliefs’, ‘Hydra Throats’, ‘Splendoured Golden Urns’ it’s all stripped from the necessary suspense and flow. After 6 listenings it still couldn’t excite and not much was stuck in the memory of these 23 minutes. Maybe spoiled by the high level of many Death Metal releases recently, but "Hydra Troats" could have a hard time to impress. Fans of BLOODY SIGN, DEAD CONGREGATION and EMBRACE OF THORNS may find some kick in the blasting and therefore should check www.archaicthorn.de, https://soundcloud.com/archaic-thorn.
