AGATHOCLES / NECROFAGOS
Sweet Hell / Predicando Miserias

The Belgian Grindcore (or, to use their own definition: Mincecore) veterans AGATHOCLES had their approximately 326th release last year. And don’t think I have overdone the number of releases here… AGATHOCLES are around for nearly three decades now and since 1990, there were about 15 releases of the band every year. Most of them were split releases, like it is the case with this 7”, shared with Colombia’s NECROFAGOS. Those who know AGATHOCLES won’t be surprised by their three songs. ‘Politicians in Election Time’ is pretty complex in terms of Mincecore, ‘Losing Is For Winners’ and their title track ‘Sweet Hell’ show how AGATHOCLES think Grind should be. Simple, raw, direct and with distinct political aspirations. Oh, and don’t forget the old saying: “Good production is overrated!”. Colombia’s NECROFAGOS present us no less than five tunes here, all of them named after infamous popes of medieval times. Musically, NECROFAGUS are actually more rooted in simple and old-fashioned Death Metal with lots of proto Death influences. On their side of this split 7”, the four piece from Cali uses some influences from the old school of Grindcore either, making “Predicando Miserias” a feast for Grind lunatics as well. The very raw, nearly unproduced sound does the one last thing to the impression that these songs were not recorded in 2014, but at least two and a half decades earlier. Those that aren’t deterred by this are welcome to get this EP. Check www.agathocles.com for AGATHOCLES, or contact NECROFAGOS at necrofagosdeath@hotmail.com or the label at hellbenller@hotmail.com
